Power demand varies on a daily and seasonal basis. Responding to changing demands over time is challenging for energy suppliers as it causes expensive power plants operate in high-demand seasons, usually summer, increasing the cost of electricity. Peak load shaving makes curve flatten by reducing peak shifting times lower demand, hence operation plants. Hence, there need large-scale long-term ESS store low-demand seasons future utilization highest-demand ones. In this work, an management system (EMS) developed optimally manage grid-connected pumped hydro storage (PHS) shaving. The proposed model incorporates dynamic economic dispatch (DED) study period one year; hence, DC flow analysis considering transmission constraints utilized ensure fast estimation manageable simulation time. framework can be adopted assess profitability PHS-utilizing GAMS optimization tool. Further, draw conclusions that would suit characteristics pattern. This essential motivate construction new PHS due high costs they are identified with, especially geographical areas where technology not yet considered or hard construct. results demonstrate integrating 1500 MWh reduced thermal units 1224 annually. reduction was recorded after unit ranged from 2.6 M 22 USD/year, depending capacity.
